The magistrates of the Special Jurisdiction for Peace (JEP) They met at the seat of that court with President-elect Gustavo Petro.
During this meeting with magistrates of the JEP, Petro referred to his total peace project and the role that this special court is fulfilling and can fulfill within this strategy.
During the meeting, the President-elect expressed the importance that the JEP can contribute much more truth to Colombian society and continue to be an effective court in the application of transitional justice with a restorative approach.
“We must collect the experience of the JEP. Ultimately what worries and scares is the truth. We need to maximize the truth”Petro stated.

Is about the first visit made by President-elect Gustavo Petro to a State entity and to a High Court in the country.
Along with Gustavo Petro, they also came to this meeting with the magistrates of the plenary chamber of the JEP – headed by the president of this court, magistrate Eduardo Cifuentes – the designated Foreign Minister, Álvaro Leyva and the designated High Commissioner for Peace, Danilo Rueda.
The presidents of the rooms and sections of the JEP also participated in this meeting, who shared with the new government team the results and needs of that transitional jurisdiction.
Judge Cifuentes stressed that Petro’s purpose of ensuring total peace in Colombia is not only “a praiseworthy design, but a constitutional mandate and a basic budget of coexistence” and argued that without a robust peace policy it becomes extremely difficult for the JEP to fulfill its judicial function.
The president of the JEP pointed out that “lThe best policy is the one that at all times is directed towards achieving peace and social justice within the framework of the Political Constitution. In this common space, it will always count on the institutional collaboration of this Jurisdiction”.

He emphasized that the sentences of the Special Jurisdiction for Peace will be structural and will aim at non-repetition, taking into consideration the situation of vulnerability of the victims.
