In an interview given to Canal N, the congressman from the Peru Libre caucus, Américo Gonza, stated that there would soon be a new change at the head of the PCM and stated that the Prime Minister, Aníbal Torres, would present his resignation from office.
According to the parliamentarian, Torres would have indicated that “he has already completed his cycle”, for which he would have asked President Pedro Castillo to remove him from the responsibilities of his post. “I know that Mr. Aníbal Torres is already asking for (his change). He believes that he has fulfilled his cycle and that he should give space to another person, ”said the congressman.
According to Américo Gonza, this change would be related to the announcement made by the president a few days ago, which would have brought forward the departure of several executive figures, including Aníbal Torres, one of the key figures in the government during the first year of Castle administration.
“The president has announced that there is going to be a cabinet change. I understand that he will do it in the next few days. It is an exclusive faculty of the president, I do not know exclusively (who would leave) ”, he expressed.
Regarding other changes in the composition of the Executive, Gonza preferred to keep the information confidential, although he confirmed his affirmations in relation to the election of a new prime minister.
The Torres Cabinet, the chronology
Aníbal Torres became President of the Council of Ministers on February 9 of this year as a replacement for Héctor Valer, who led an ephemeral cabinet that lasted only four days due to the accusations of family violence against him.
During the time he has been in charge of the PCM, Aníbal Torres has been characterized by a scathing style in defense of the presidency of Pedro Castillo, as well as by various controversies, such as the one he starred in when he spoke in a tone of praise to the Nazi dictator Adolfo Hitler.
The cabinet headed by the lawyer and professor from Cajamarca has been the fourth so far in the Castilista administration. Prior to his appointment as leader of the PCM, Torres had served as Minister of Justice and Human Rights.
