The national government affirms that the current regulatory framework determines that the National Population and Housing Census be carried out until May or June 2024 and that, from now on, technical work will be carried out to eliminate the identified risks to reach that date.

Sergio Cusicanqui, Minister of Planning, also maintained that there is a recommendation from the high-level international commissionwhich supports that term for the national survey, so now it seeks to depoliticize the discussion.

“We are working on the regulatory framework. We have a decree that establishes that the census be carried out between May or June 2024, that is the mandatethat is the technical recommendation of international organizations, which after their technical mission recommended that the census be carried out in 2024”, said the authority.

He indicated that as a result of the meeting of the National Council of Autonomies, the meeting of the president with university rectors and the appointment with mayors of the capital cities, plus El Alto, a series of tasks were generated that will require more time to complete.

“Requirements were generated that will represent a need for more time than is required for this census process. It is necessary that this entire process minimizes the risks that have been identified within its development and allow good international practices to be applied, so that in the end we have good quality data, for the benefit of the regions, so that they can generate public policies for the Bolivian population”, he said.

He confirmed that the National Institute of Statistics (INE) will start a series of meetings with local authorities to socialize the work and allow an exchange of criteria, where “purely technical aspects” are addressed.

“It is not that it is necessary, it is a discussion and it must be referred to a strictly technical area, risks have been established, it has been established in technical terms that the recommendation says that it should be carried out until 2024to minimize these risks and strengthen this census process, through the accompaniment of municipalities, governments, universities”, he insisted in an interview with Unitel.

Meanwhile, both Santa Cruz institutions have activated alerts, since they reject that the census be carried out after June 2023.
