Relics of Saint John Paul II arrive in Paraguay

Relics of Saint John Paul II arrive in Paraguay

The relics consist of a blood vial mounted in a unique reliquary and a book of the Gospels with its pages open, similar to the one that sat atop the saint’s coffin during his funeral.

Hand in hand with the organizations Apostles of the Two Hearts and the Archbishopric of Asunción, relics of Saint John Paul II visit Asunción and Caacupé in the first days of August, this being a very significant act for Catholics, believers and followers of the old sumo pontiff.

On Monday 8 and Friday 12 from 3:00 p.m. access will be allowed to people who want to attend the meeting and later to the religious celebration at 7:00 p.m. For its part, in the Basilica of Caacupé on Wednesday the 10th the opening hours will also be 3:00 p.m.; while mass will take place at 6:00 p.m. During the symbolic act, a crown of Divine Mercy, Veneration of the relic and blessing with the relic present will be carried out.

Mother Adela Galindo, founder of the Religious Sisters of the Herbs of the Pierced Hearts of Jesus and Mary (SCTJM), said that they feel very excited to be able to carry out this event, which could not have been carried out without the collaboration and support of the organizations with whom they carry out this event. The sisters are in charge of pilgrimage with the relics to different parts of the world, they had already visited all of South America and the US before the start of the pandemic and now they are starting their journey again.

Three grades of relics

The Catholic Church distinguishes three degrees or classes of relics: Relics of the first class, which refers to some part of the saint’s body. The second class is an object or belonging of the saint, and the third; which refers to something that has been in contact with the saint.

They also mention that for them these objects are a concrete sign of the presence of the saints in the midst of people. The relic of the blood of Saint Paul was seen by thousands of people thanks to Cardinal Stanislaw Dziwisz, who was his personal secretary and possessor of them.

Access to the event is completely free and people who want more information can contact 021 200990 / 0971281 162 or also through the website www.hearts.org or on Facebook Apostles of Hearts ADC.
