Another massive sprint today animated the longest stage of the women’s Tour de France. The Dutch Annemiek van Vleuten and the Cuban Arlenis Sierra led the Movistar Team.
Both van Vleuten and Sierra finished in the top 30 on day five in 22nd and 28th places, respectively. Her teammate, the Danish Emma Norsgaard, had to abandon the race due to a fall that affected her left shoulder.
Van Vleuten and Sierra made up a group of more than fifty cyclists who exhibited the same time as Wiebes, who finished the course in 4 hours, 32 minutes and 16 seconds.
After starting from Bar-le-Duc and pedaling 175 kilometers to Saint-Dié-des-Vosges, the also Dutch woman relegated the Italian Elisa Balsamo (Trek-Segafredo) and her compatriot Marianne Vos (Jumbo-Visma) to the finish line. .
With that third place, Vos kept the leadership of the individual general, in which van Vleuten kept the eighth seat (at 1:18 minutes) and the Cuban Sierra rose from 31 to 30 (5:36 minutes).
The other best placed Movistar rider is the Colombian Paula Patiño, who appears in 45th place and 13:53 minutes from the lead. The French Aude Biannic (in 101, at 27:41) and the Spanish Sheyla Gutiérrez (110, at 31:35) are further behind.
