A spectacular traffic accident that occurred on a Nicaraguan highway claimed the lives of 16 people, including 13 Venezuelans, and left 47 injured.
The Nicaraguan Police confirmed the information through its Twitter account @vppolicial in which it published the list of the deceased who have been identified so far.
“Ntra @vppolicial reports on the brothers who died in the terrible accident that occurred at Km 171.5 North Pan-American Highway. We appeal to the responsibility of drivers to respect speed limits so as not to continue causing pain to our people,” the Nicaraguan Police tweeted this Thursday morning.
The accident It happened at 6:30 in the afternoon this Wednesday exactly at kilometer 162 of the highway between Estelí and Condega, on the La Cucamonga slope, reported the Radio The First from Nicaragua.
The deceased Venezuelans, five women and eight men, were identified as: Judith Cáceres Contreras, 45, Franyel Pérez (44), Alexis Hurdaneta (43), Arístides Brillembourg (39), Jackson Somoza (38), Joselyn Martel (38) , Dalia Soler (37), Neomar Márquez (36), Antony Romero (31), Eyner Rodríguez (30), Jordan Castellano (29), Cinthia Was (26), Juleana Quiñonez (20).
Likewise, the police authorities indicated on their Twitter account that they are carrying out investigations to try to determine the causes of the accident in which the 42-year-old Nicaraguan Lorenzo Mejía also lost his life.
The bodies of the deceased were transferred to the Institute of Legal Medicine of Managua, where forensic doctors determined the causes of death: Severe head trauma and polytrauma.
Speeding
The police report states that the bus driver was speeding and collided with two vehicles before falling off a cliff.
The driver of the bus, license plate M221075, identified as Alfredo Antonio Palma (46) “is imprisoned in the cells of the Police Delegation of the department of Estelí and will be sent to the order of the competent authorities for prosecution,” the statement said.
The injured were treated by officials of the Nicaraguan Citizen Power Emergency System, made up of the Police, the Ministry of Health, the Unified Firefighters, Immigration and Immigration, and the Municipal Mayor’s Office, and transferred to the San Juan de Dios Hospital in the department of Esteli.
