They correct the conflict of interest law project, seek to combat corruption and eliminate nepotism

Several points vetoed by the President of the Republic, Laurentino Cortizo, of the conflict of interest bill, were corrected this afternoon in the Government, Justice and Constitutional Affairs Commission of the National Assembly; there the deputy Gabriel Silva assured that this law is essential to combat corruption.

Specifically, the commission approved correcting presidential veto objections Partial due to inconvenience and unenforceability of Bill 329, which regulates situations of conflict of interest in the public function.

Silva stressed that this Law is essential to combat corruption and what it seeks is that the official always think of the country and the citizens and never in his own pocket or that of his co-supporters or families.

He said that the reasons for vetoing the project were for minimal things that can be corrected. “These are superficial changes and we are correcting it; we hope that it will be approved in the National Assembly in the three debates because this norm is essential to fight corruption”, he said.

He explained that the law seeks, more than anything, that all officials annually make a declaration of conflict of interest where they express who their relatives are, what businesses they have, where they have interests, what public contracts they have been able to have in the past, in the present and say transparently where they consider they have conflicts of interest.

He explained that all this information will be sent to the National Transparency Authority (ANTAI), who will be in charge of supervising each decision that the official makes and in case of conflicts, warn him to refrain and if the official still decides to carry out the action in conflict, then, you can face dismissal, a fine and even for a fine and even criminal sanctions.

The issue of nepotism (hiring relatives in the public sector) is also regulated, including stronger sanctions for those who commit this administrative offense; They also seek to regulate the hiring of people who work in the private sector and at the same time in the public sector, forming the phenomenon known as the rotating rope.

According to Olga de Obaldía, yes approval of the plenary is achieved, for this project, it will be a normative advance towards transparency in the management of public servants. He said that the Law shows a willingness to change administrative management in the public service that we need in the country.
