Public Health: there are no more active cases of monkeypox in the country

Santo Domingo- The Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance (MISPAS) reported this Wednesday that no more active cases of monkeypox virus (MXV) have been reported in the country, after the two patients who were in isolation at the Military Hospital Professor Doctor Ramón de Lara, since July 5, they were discharged.

The health authorities clarified that both the 51-year-old female and the 19-year-old male were sent home this Tuesday, after completing three weeks of isolation and giving a negative result to the disease.

The Deputy Minister of Collective Health, Dr. Eladio Pérez, highlighted that the epidemiological monitoring that was being carried out on the five people who were in contact with the two infected, did not produce signs of the virus, so they were discarded and reiterated that the three infections notified so far of the so-called “monkeypox” were exported and there have been no cases of local transmission.

We also clarify that these three infections were from people who were in direct relationship with US citizens. , there is no community transmission of this disease here,” Dr. Pérez pointed out.

On his side, the medical colonel, José Darío Richardson, director of the Ramón de Lara Hospital, stated that “the two patients responded effectively and quickly to the treatment used to counteract the disease, thanks to the excellent intervention of the Ministry of Health.”

While the first Lt. Infectologist, Joel Ureña Vázquez, family doctor of the affected patients, pointed out that “During the last 96 hours they did not present active lesions and no situation that warranted having them in the center, an exhaustive and timely evaluation was carried out before sending them home, as hospital protocol and for their reinstatement in their work activities”.
