The third oral trial for the crime of María Marta García Belsunce, murdered by six bullets to the head almost 20 years ago at her home in Carmel de Pilar, will continue with a possible first statement by the main defendant, Nicolás Pachelo, judicial sources reported.
The eighth day of this debate takes place this Thursday morning on the mezzanine of the San Isidro courts, located at 340 Ituzaingó street.
Although on Wednesday the rumor had settled that Pachelo wanted to speak for the first time before the Oral Criminal Court (TOC) 4 of San Isidro, finally the defense decided to postpone it.
Defense sources told Télam that Pachelo’s idea is to make some clarifications in relation to the statements that the car dealer Mariano Maggi gave in the trial on Tuesday.
The witness accused Pachelo of having defrauded him in 2000 by buying him a truck with stolen checks and that as a result of that conflict, the man now accused of murder threatened him saying: “If I had the balls to kill my father, imagine that killing you or your mother means nothing to me”.
The defense sources did not clarify to Télam whether, if he testifies, Pachelo will also defend himself from the main fact, that is, from the accusation that weighs on him for the murder of his former neighbor in Carmel, García Belsunce, nor if he is going to accept or not answer questions from prosecutors.
summoned witnesses
Regardless of whether or not the main accused testifies, TOC 4, chaired by Judge Federico Ecke and made up of his colleagues Osvaldo Rossi and Esteban Andrejin, will continue to listen to the statement of three other witnesses summoned by the prosecution.
On Wednesday, he declared Nora “Pichi” Burgues de Taylora friend and neighbor of María Marta, who assured in court that the sociologist had confessed to her: “I am afraid of Pachelo”, because she had kidnapped him and demanded ransom for his dog.
also showed up Emma Benitezone of the domestic employees of the marriage of Carlos Carrascosa and María Marta, who acknowledged that she cleaned the bathroom where the sociologist was murdered and the room where she was kept awake.
Finally, the lawyer stated Sergio Lopeza resident of Carmel since 1995 and a former member of the security subcommittee and the board of directors, who referred to the fact that there were two cases prior to the homicide of robberies that occurred on Sunday afternoons, one of them involving golf clubs.
In this third trial for the crime, prosecutors Patricio Ferrari, Andrés Quintana and Federico González aim to demonstrate that Pachelo killed María Marta with six bullets to the head when she surprised him robbing her house.
According to the prosecutor’s accusation, for this the former neighbor had the collaboration of former security guards Norberto Glennon (57) and José Ortiz (45).
