Undersecretary of the Segegob after meeting with the Comptroller’s team: “Our processes have been in compliance with current regulations”

The undersecretary of the General Secretariat of Government (Segegob), Valeska Orange, met on Wednesday with a team of auditors from the Comptroller General of the Republic (CGR), who were constituted in the place to inquire about a possible electoral interventionism of the Government in the face of the constitutional plebiscite, which will be held on September 4. After the appointment, Naranjo commented that “our processes have been in compliance with current regulations.”

After complaints from the opposition to the Comptroller’s Office, the body decided to launch an investigation against the Segegob, a portfolio headed by the minister Camila Vallejo. The investigation is focused on the execution of the campaign “creative concept and audiovisual production in the framework” -known as Chile Vota Informado-, financed with resources from the Segegob.

“At the meeting we talked about the specific procedures to be able to collaborate as soon as possible and deliver what they need,” said Undersecretary Naranjo in conversation with The Mercury. “Our actions will be that of maximum collaboration,” added the authority.

“We can guarantee that our processes have been in compliance with current regulations and respecting the disregard. The different stages of the campaign have been carried out with the greatest transparency, through the mechanisms that the State has, such as the public procurement system Orange said.

In addition, he affirmed that the Executive will continue to report on the plebiscite and the proposal for a new Constitution. “It is our duty and mandate that citizens have all the information from reliable sources, as in this case is the text of the proposed new Constitution,” he said.

President Boric’s reaction

Let us remember that before the meeting between the undersecretary and the team of auditors of the CGR, the President Gabriel Boric was consulted about the investigation. In this regard, he stated that they will collaborate with the supervisory body.

“The Comptroller’s Office will find in our government all our willingness to collaborate,” said Boric, adding that “we are convinced that what we have done by distributing the copy of the draft of the new Constitution is precisely to inform.”

Likewise, he said that “I take advantage of these circumstances in the following way: the Government cannot use public resources, it is not appropriate for it to use public resources to publicize its preference regarding one or another option, but it does have the duty to inform, and we are not going to to give up the effort so that all Chilean men and women vote on September 4 informed”.
