Santo Domingo – The Dairy Technical Department of the National Council for the Regulation and Promotion of the Dairy Industry (WITH MILK)the Milk Quality Unit of the General Directorate of Livestock (SAY)in conjunction with the Dairy Unit of the Ministry of Public Health (MSP)continues the work of revising the labeling of dairy products, to verify that they comply with the NORDOM 53 standard, on the requirements of labels on preserved foods.
Label revision work has been carried out in the main supermarkets in the provinces of Santo Domingo and Santiago de los Caballeros.
For two weeks, technicians from CONALECHE, DIGEGA and the MSP carried out a survey of dairy products, where they checked whether their labels comply with the list of ingredients, expiration dates, batches, factory addresses, among others.
Before these review works, seizures had been made of products that did not comply with the NORDOM 53 standard, of the Dominican Institute for Quality (Indocal).
“Conaleche, Livestock and Public Health have removed imitation cheese from the market and we urge citizens to denounce places where there are similar products,” indicates a press release sent by the authorities.
Labeling is a challenge for the Dominican authorities, since there are products in the country that do not comply with what is required by Nordom 53, which is why Conaleche and the MSP have taken the initiative to supervise products in the dairy sector. , in order that the consumer receives what he has really paid.
As a promoter of the country’s sector, Conaleche is interested in the fact that the dairy products marketed meet quality requirements, for which it maintains its support for supervision work in national trade.
The institutions recommended that consumers check the labels of the products they buy, in order to make sure that they are made from milk.
