A Paraguayan doctor and others of foreign nationality, who studied abroad, did not achieve the minimum score required to homologate their university degrees in our country.
The Faculty of Medical Sciences UNA, through the Department of Homologation of Undergraduate Degrees dependent on the Academic Directorate, carried out the first examination of homologation of degrees
Dr. Violeta Larán, head of Homologation dependent on the Academic Directorate, stated that “the applicants unfortunately did not reach the required score of 70%, therefore, they were not qualified for the second practical evaluative call with patients.”
The multiple choice exam was 100 points, 100 questions of one minute each. Of the 19 applicants, only one was of Paraguayan nationality, the rest were all foreigners, the majority Venezuelans, as well as Bolivians, Argentines, Peruvians, Cubans and one Salvadoran. The subjects were anatomy, histology, pharmacology and physiology, as well as questions on general aspects related to topics taught throughout the university, which would be legal medicine, public health and hospital administration and the area of mental health.
The highest score was 56% and the lowest score was 13%, for which they did not access the second evaluative exam. “An unfavorable legal opinion would be coming out within a week to officially report the results,” reported Dr. Larán.
The homologation process begins with the presentation of documents before the Ministry of Education and Sciences, which allows any Paraguayan citizen or foreigner who has completed his university studies abroad, to exercise the profession. Then said paperwork said antecedent was sent to the Rectorate of the UNA, who is the entity that finally authorizes the FCM-UNA to take the exams that consist of two processes or moments.
Finally, it should be noted that the Examining Board was made up of prominent professors from the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the UNA and from evaluated subjects such as Prof. Dr. Andrés Szwako, Academic Director, Dr. Violeta Larán, Head of the Approvals Department; also Prof. Dr. Ángel Caballero, Prof. Dr. Enrique Pérez Gírala, Prof. Dr. Felicia Cañete, Dr. Laura Duarte, Prof. Dr. Cristian Noldin and Prof. Dr. Margarita Duarte.
