MADRID, Spain.- The Cuban Government signed a memorandum of understanding with the Chinese tourism group Caissa Tourism Group with the aim of promoting cooperation in the development of tourism between both countries.
The agreement was established this Tuesday in Beijing between the ambassador from Havana in the Asian country, Carlos Miguel Pereira, and Chen Xiaobing, co-founder and executive director of the Caissa Tourism Group.
The representatives of the sector declared that both parties will work on “the promotion, organization and management of travelers to the Island and to China under various modalities.”
According to the official Latin Press“the initiatives generated will also be consistent with the interests identified in the areas of cultural, health, historical-heritage and multi-destination tourism in the Caribbean region.”
The note also highlights that the Cuban authorities intend to double the number of Chinese travelers to the island in the short term, for which it promotes Cuba as a tourist destination, highlighting “its attractions and strengths in variants such as tourism from nature, culture, health and nautical”.
In 2019, before the arrival of the coronavirus pandemic, China ranked 13th among the countries that send tourists to the Island.
In its eagerness to boost the tourism sector and reach 2.5 million visitors during 2022, the regime has been presenting Cuba as a destination in CambodiaCanada, Uruguay, Italy and Turkey.
According to data recently published by the National Office of Statistics and Information of Cuba (ONEI), during the first half of 2022, 987,008 tourists have arrived in the country, which means an increase of 557.3% compared to the same period last year. However, this figure is far from the arrival of 2.5 million foreign visitors predicted by the Cuban government for 2022.
