The spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zajárova, described the way of acting of the West towards the founder of WikiLeaks, Julian Assange, as cannibalism, the TASS news agency highlighted today.
The representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a briefing the day before that the actions of these countries are aimed at “exterminating” the journalist.
According to Zajárova, the case against Assange is no longer talking about double standards and not even trampling on high principles and ideals.
“It is about the extermination of a person, revenge for his position, for his bravery and because he considered it necessary, even apparently understanding the possible risks, to share with the world very important information that shed light on the lies and deceptions of all a series of States ”, it indicated.
He warned that his health deteriorated considerably and his partner, Stella Moris, reported in recent days that the Australian cyberjournalist had a stroke on October 27.
The official questioned the apathetic reaction of the international community to the inhumane treatment that Assange has been given since he was arrested in April 2019, after almost seven years of asylum in the Ecuadorian embassy in the British capital.
The London High Court of Justice approved on December 10 to extradite the WikiLeaks editor to the United States, where he is accused of espionage and computer hacking.
The charges against him in that country carry a maximum sentence of 175 years in prison for the publication, since 2010, of hundreds of thousands of pages of secret military documents and diplomatic cables on Washington’s actions in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
