Last Saturday the 23rd, it transpired that a 14-year-old teenager killed a 26-year-old in the Nuevo Ellauri neighborhood area, after shooting him with a firearm.
As part of the police procedure, a Glock 9 mm pistol was seized, and it was found that the weapon belongs to the National Army and was missing from the Material and Armament Service (SMA).
Given this, the National Army carried out an immediate inspection of the SMA weapons depots, detecting the absence of two other pistols with similar characteristics.
After that, the Military Justice intervened and an urgent investigation was initiated. Likewise, the Army filed a police complaint and ordered an urgent inspection of weapons depots throughout the country, as indicated in a statement.
Six soldiers suspended
For his part, the spokesman for the Army, Pedro Gómez, said on Monday the 25th that the force decided to suspend six soldiers, after completing the first stage of the investigation.
He stressed that those suspended are directly related to the operations of the warehouse, they are technically trained trusted personnel, and that someone acted unfairly.
On the other hand, the urgent investigation also led to an administrative investigation with presumary for the military, while trying to determine “where the fault was and which ranks were responsible.”
