The Minister of Economy, Silvina Batakis, confirmed that Argentina will meet the goals agreed with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
“With the Fund we are not talking about touching the goals. But how are we going to meet the goals. We have to meet the goals and we are not talking about reviewing those goals, ”the head of the Palacio de Hacienda said this Tuesday afternoon during a contact she had with the press at the Argentine Embassy in Washington.
After completing his two-day visit to Washington, where he developed an intense agenda that included interviews at the highest institutional level with officials from the US Treasury, the IMF and the World Bank, Batakis made a balance of the activity that he considered as ” very positive.”
Regarding the meetings he had with the IMF, Batakis revealed that another new meeting with the technical staff was added to the agenda in the morning, which was not originally planned, before the breakfast he had with investors.
The Deputy Director of the Western Hemisphere Department, Julie Kozack, and Luis Cubbedu, in charge of the Argentine case, participated on behalf of the IMF.
“With the Fund we talk about how we are going to do to meet the goals”reiterated Batakis, satisfied with having fulfilled the objective of the trip, which was to introduce herself to the US authorities and multilateral organizations, so that they know her as a professional, policy manager and as a person.
In the talk with the press, Batakis also ratified that “the measures he is carrying out have the support of the government coalition.”
“We are in a government coalition, and within that government coalition there is a balance, which is effectively given so that we can implement these measures and develop everything we have to develop to calm down the Argentine economy a little,” he said.
After maintaining this contact with the press, Batakis and Deputy Minister Karina Angeletti left for the airport to return to Argentina, escorted by the Argentine ambassador in Washington DC, Jorge Argüello.
