AN commemorated 200 years of the meeting between Bolívar and San Martín

The National Assembly agreed this Tuesday on a project of Agreement in Celebration of the 200 years of the Meeting between the Liberator Simon Bolivar and the General of the Armies of the South José de San Martín.

The president of the deputy Parliament, Jorge Rodríguez, began the debate by emphasizing that nothing else came out of that meeting than the fundamental agreement on the freedom of Peru. “From that encounter came a friendship of two giants,” he said.

For his part, the deputy Luis Martínez, informed that the bench he represents (opposition) joins the Project of agreement of the 200 years of the Meeting of the Liberator Simón Bolívar with the Argentine leader, José de San Martín.

Likewise, the deputy Blanca Eekhout highlighted that Venezuela and Argentina are daughters of Liberators. “Let’s continue promoting the supportive embrace of those who do not give up,” she said.

Deputy Blanca Eekhout was in charge of presenting the project and recalled the reason for President Hugo Chávez’s insistence on reviving history.

“Chávez not only recalled our history but also made it alive, his and all of us,” she said.

Recognition of Argentina

The Argentine ambassador, Oscar Laborde, and his accredited delegation in Venezuela were present at the session, who assured, “Today, 200 years later, the constant on the part of the oligarchies is the attempt to intrigue to make believe that that embrace between the heroes was due to mistrust or disloyalty,” he said.

He recalled that just as El Libertador Bolívar was banished from Venezuela in his later years, San Martín was sentenced to exile for three decades. “He was 30 years old without being able to return. They did not allow him to return to Argentinathey wanted to condemn him to bronze and to memory, not to political legacy”, he claimed.

He thanked Venezuela for the unrestricted support for Argentina’s rights in the Malvinas and for self-determination and sovereignty. He advocated the country’s return to Mercosur, the consolidation of UNASUR and CELAC.

Labord assured that his presence in Venezuela is a demonstration of the bilateral relations that should never have been interrupted.

“They try to divide us, they have given us coups, prevented presidencies and elections, the response we have to give them is in unity, a joint, simultaneous response,” he concluded.
