Uruguay will have the first Sustainable Terminal in South America

With some 1,000 direct jobs and 5,000 indirect jobs for Uruguayan labor, the expansion works of the Terminal in the port of Montevideo will begin, which will increase its capacity, the quality of its services and strengthen its flexibility and sustainability.

These works will make the port of Montevideo the first sustainable terminal in South America, since it will provide electrical energy to all docked ships and, in this way, will prevent them from having to be on permanently, consuming fuel with its corresponding noise pollution. , vibrations and emission of polluting substances. The new infrastructure that will make this technological and environmental leap possible is called “cold ironing”.

These works will end in 2025, but in 2024 the first berth will be inaugurated and new cranes, other equipment and additional labor will be incorporated. Likewise, the works will also improve the fishing and recreation capacities of the Sarandí breakwater.
