Nuns expelled by Ortega will create a foundation in Costa Rica

The Missionaries of Charity, who were expelled by order of the regime of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo, are working on the creation of a charitable foundation in Costa Rica, informed Monsignor Manuel Eugenio Salazar Mora, bishop of the Diocese of Tilarán, on his website. Facebook. The nuns went through situations of “anxiety and fear” in Nicaragua after the harassment they suffered in the centers they attended.

The sisters of the order created by Mother Teresa of Calcutta worked in Nicaragua in the Missionary Sisters of Charity Association. They were removed from Nicaragua after the cancellation of legal personality. The non-governmental organization (NGO) was part of the list of 101 associations that were outlawed on June 29 by the Sandinista deputies before the National Assembly.

«When the nuns of Calcutta were expelled from Nicaragua, losing all their goods, we received them at the border. I proposed a foundation in Cañas, an issue that resonated with them. After negotiations I can tell you unofficially: I present the foundation to you, as a desire or project that has been discussed but has not yet signed a contract. Let us pray that it materializes,” the bishop published on his social network account.

The new foundation of the nuns would be located in Cañas, in the Costa Rican province of Guanacaste. “It would be a house with six nuns dedicated to evangelization and assistance to the poor. We are all willing to cooperate. In the poor is Christ alive! Blessings”, added Monsignor Salazar Mora.

The expulsion of the nuns

On Wednesday, July 6, a minibus with the nuns was escorted to the border with Costa Rica to ensure that the nuns left the country after the cancellation and confiscation of their property by the Nicaraguan regime.

The authorities notified the nuns of foreign origin, who are the ones who manage the charity centers, that they had to leave the country. Since last June 15, the Missionaries of Charity Association closed operations of a nursery, a home for abused or abandoned girls, and a nursing home that they managed in various areas of the country.

The Ministry of the Interior (Migob) maintained that the Missionaries of Charity are not accredited by the Ministry of Family to function as a nursery, child development center and home for girls or a nursing home, nor do they have permission from the Ministry of Education to carry out the learning reinforcement.

The Missionaries of Charity Association was created on August 16, 1988 during the first Sandinista regime (1979-1990), and its opening took place after a visit to Nicaragua by Mother Teresa of Calcutta, in which she met with Ortega , who was also the president at the time.
