The president of the National Assembly, the Ortega deputy Gustavo Porras, focused his speech on the closing session of the XXXVII Legislature of the National Assembly, replicating the epithets and disqualifications against the political prisoners wielded by Daniel Ortega in his last speeches.

Ortega since November 8 has maintained an aggressive hate speech against political prisoners and priests of the Catholic Church. This Wednesday, Porras echoed these attacks in his closing speech, then read a report on the work of Parliament in the period 2017-2021, which was characterized by total subordination to the provisions dictated by Ortega and Rosario Murillo from the Executive power.

On January 9, 2022, Porras theoretically will assume a legislature, composed in its vast majority by the same Ortega deputies and their collaborationist allies, appointed by the Supreme Electoral Council -also subordinate to the regime- after the November 7 voting.

At the twentieth ALBA summit in Cuba, Commander Daniel gave us a piece of true history that we have to repeat and we have to take care of. It is not an isolated event that those who applauded the coming of the invading Yankee, who paid homage to William Walker as a peacemaker, it is not by chance that they have the same last names as the criminals who today have to render accounts to the Nicaraguan people, and that they are imprisoned ”, said Porras in intervention.

The Ortega regime unleashed since May, with the raid and assault on the offices where the studies of the programs operated This weekOh Tonight, a repressive wave that to date has left more than 47 new political prisoners.

Among the prisoners of conscience are the presidential candidates Cristiana Chamorro, Arturo Cruz, Félix Maradiaga, Juan Sebastián Chamorro, Medardo Mairena, Miguel Mora and Noel Vidaurre, accused of conspiracy against national sovereignty and money laundering.

The last Cid Gallup poll conducted in October, hired by CONFIDENCIAL, revealed that any of the seven imprisoned candidates would have beaten Ortega in a free and transparent electoral process.

“Commander Daniel has said it and we have said it in this National Assembly. Those who are imprisoned are not imprisoned for thinking differently or for not being Sandinistas. They are imprisoned because they destroyed, because they set fire, because they murdered, because they hit the Nicaraguan economy and killed hundreds of Nicaraguans, ”Porras added.

The regime seeks to impose a narrative that prisoners of conscience and priests are responsible for the violence and massacres that occurred in the framework of the 2018 civil protests, at a time when it faces a strong international pressureHe who demands the freedom of political prisoners and the annulment of the de facto police state imposed by the dictatorship in Nicaragua.

The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) estimates 355 deaths as a result of the violence derived from the repression unleashed by the regime through the police forces and paramilitary groups. This even led to the establishment that “crimes against humanity” were committed in Nicaragua, the investigation of which is blocked by Ortega.

“What is worse is that they have the traitorous characteristics of always. They did not show their faces. And since they didn’t show their faces, they thought they were going to go unnoticed here. They believed they were protected by the drainage of money that came to them to distribute to criminals, in most of the times, but also to poor Nicaraguans, which is a double crime, I say triple, because they were stolen ”, added Porras.

In addition to the presidential candidates and opposition politicians, among the prisoners of conscience there are also peasant leaders, student leaders, businessmen and journalists critical of the regime. Several of the hostages participated in the two dialogue processes that sought agreements to end the socio-political crisis, and which failed due to the dictatorship’s rejection of these negotiations.

“They are the same last names. It is the same oligarchy. He was signed in the vendepatrias (alluding to the times of William Walker) who was going to be his descendants “, added the president of the Assembly.

Porras is sanctioned by the United States, the European Union and Switzerland, accused of “serious violations of human rights or actions that undermine democracy and the rule of law in Nicaragua.”
