Emtrasur plane case in Argentina: kidnapping or justified action?

This Monday, the Argentine federal judge of Lomas de Zamora, Federico Villena, ordered the release of the cargo of the Venezuelan Emtrasur plane, held for seven weeks at the Ezeiza international airport, located about 35 kilometers southwest of the city of Buenos Aires. , refers a press release from Telesur.

These are Volkswagen brand auto parts, managed by four internationally known traders and who arrived in that South American nation in a Boeing 747-300, which arrived on June 6 from Mexico and after making a stopover in Caracas, with 19 crew members. (14 Venezuelans and five Iranians).

The order comes after the cargo was inspected twice without finding anything of illegal origin or making any accusation against the crew; even subjected to investigation with dogs that detect explosives and narcotics.

Embassy of Türkiye denies

In recent days, the Türkiye embassy in Argentina sent a letter to the Editorial Secretary General of the newspaper La Nación denying the news published in that Argentine newspaper on July 5, 2022, which contains statements against the Türkiye National Intelligence Organization in relation to the EMTRASUR cargo plane.

“The alleged sharing of intelligence regarding the cargo plane by the Turkish Intelligence Organization with its Argentine and Brazilian counterparts is totally unfounded,” clarifies the Ambassador of Türkiye Ş. Vural Altay in the aforementioned letter.

He adds that the document presented in the news attributed to the Turkish Intelligence Organization is false. And that it can be clearly seen that it is fraudulent, since it contains an inexact emblem of the organization “which has probably been copied and pasted from Wikipedia”

The investigations of the Argentine justice detail that the automotive components destined for the seats of the Vokswagen TAOS model came from the French company SAS (of the global automotive supplier Fauresia), which operates a plant in Querétaro, Mexico, and had to deliver them in that country.

In the same way, it was learned of a similar shipment sent by said company from Miami, United States, which was also detained, and whose release and delivery order was given by Judge Villena himself.

Despite the absence of any accusation, the crew of the aircraft remains unable to return to their respective countries; The prosecutor and the judge stated that it was appropriate to investigate whether the crew members of the Jumbo came exclusively to bring auto parts, or also to spy or make some contribution to a terrorist operation; issue is accentuated by Argentine opposition groups.

This despite the fact that the plane accumulated similar cargo transportation to 13 countries on its route sheet before the aforementioned trip to Argentina; and that both President Alberto Fernández and the representative of the Federal Intelligence Agency, Agustín Rossi, criticized said manipulation attempts by the opposition.

In this sense, the defense of the crew has requested that they be allowed to return to their countries, and that the Jumbo be returned; To which Villena gave the prosecutor’s office and the non-governmental organization Delegation of Argentine Israelite Associations (DAIA) until Tuesday to make a statement.

No accusation and no evidence

As will be recalled, on June 6, the Emtrasur Cargo plane landed in Argentina from Mexico, a Boing 747 belonging to the recently created cargo transport company, which after leaving for Montevideo two days later and having its access revoked to Uruguay, he had to return to Argentine territory, finding that retention was ordered.

To order, issued by the Argentine federal judge Federico Villenathe boarding of the aircraft was complied with by at least 60 members of the Airport Security Police (PSA), who searched the aircraft with anti-drug dogs without finding anything irregular.

Along with the order to retain the Emtrasur plane, Judge Villena ordered the confiscation of the passports of all the crew made up of 14 Venezuelans and 5 Iranians, as well as their cell phones and tablets.

Venezuela claimed at that time to Uruguay the refusal to receive the aircraft with Venezuelan acronyms, indicating that this action put the crew at risk due to the low amount of fuel that it had at the time the landing permit in Montevideo was revoked.

“Once they landed, it was found that the aircraft had only 17,000 liters of fuel, well below what is recommended by the Emtrasur Standardized Operational Procedure, which is established at 20,000 liters,” they pointed out in a statement issued by the creole chancellery
