Government enables new space for early childhood care

In the city of Hernandarias, a new “Kunu’u” Child Development Space was enabled, which now adds up to nine within the early childhood protection strategy throughout the country.

The President of the Republic, Mario Abdo Benítez, and the First Lady, Silvana Abdo, led the opening ceremony at the Virgen del Rosario School in Hernandarias.

The EDI Kunu’u centers are aimed at children between four months and three years of age in vulnerable situations, whose parents are street workers. The centers offer community care and stimulation services for the development of children, as well as support for working mothers and fathers.

The strategy is promoted by the Office of the First Lady, together with the Ministries of Children and Adolescents (Minna) and of Education (MEC), in coordination with the local governments and municipalities for the equipment and work in the centers.

In total, fourteen Child Development Spaces (EDI) are expected to be set up in 10 departments of the country. The project is financed by the FEEI for G. 1,600 million.

The inauguration was also attended by the Minna minister, Teresa Martínez, and the MEC minister, Nicolás Zárate, and the mayor of Hernandarias, Nelson Cano.
