New York wants to ban the sale of dogs and cats in stores

The state of New York, United States, seeks to ban the sale of dogs, cats and rabbits in pet stores, as California has already done, to encourage the adoption of pets in shelters and kennels.

New York founds this initiative in a law approved in the state Legislature by both parties, Republican and Democrat, which is to be signed by Governor Kathy Hochul, the ANSA news agency reported.

The purpose of the measure is encourage citizens to adopt animals from shelters and kennelssince for years there have been very severe criticisms of breeders, due to the poor conditions in which they keep the animals, and because many operate without being authorized.

While, the purchase of puppies of dogs, cats and advice will be allowed directly to the breederswith the aim that potential buyers can verify in person the origin and condition of the animals.
