Less and less is missing for the election of the Board of Directors of Congress, that will be held this Tuesday, July 26, and that has, to date, two confirmed candidates for the presidency of the Legislative.
Both presented as the “democratic” option, which would exercise an “opposition” to the Government of Pedro Castillo, Gladys Echaíz and Lady Camones, are in the middle of a fight become the most attractive proposal for the rest of the legislators; in the center of a contest in the Board of Directors that generates, even, the votes divided within the same benches.
Possible votes for Lady Camones
With the parliamentary list already presented, Lady Camones is shown as the option that parties such as Fuerza Popular, Somos Perú and Podemos would support en bloc. This unit was reaffirmed this Sunday, July 24, when it was officially presented, which is made up of Camones (APP), in the presidency; Martha Moyano (FP), as first vice-presidency; Digna Calle (PP), as second vice-presidency; and Wilmar Elera (SP) in the third vice-presidency. The same one that was advanced by this means last Saturday.

With 24 congressmen from Fuerza Popular, 12 from Alianza para el Progreso, five from Somos Perú and five from Podemos, Camones’ candidacy would have a total of 46 votes on his side; however, there is a preference towards this list by some parliamentarians from Avanza País, such as Rosselli Amuruz or Jorge Burgos, who have declared, for various media, their intention to opt for the apepista, generating a separation in the Avanza País caucus , who had assured that he would support Echaíz

On the other hand, at a press conference held last Saturday, July 23, the spokesperson for Renovación Popular, Jorge Montoya, accompanied by some parliamentarians from the Avanza País caucus, such as Patricia Chirinos, Alejandro Cavero, Adriana Tudela and Norma Yarrow announced the nomination of Gladys Echaíz as president of a list that aspired to the Board of Directors.
However, this is one that would not have the complete preference of the opposition, since only Renovación Popular, with 10 votes, and a part of Avanza País, would be willing to elect the congresswoman who had already announced not to participate in the elections to the Presidency of the Legislative, and that he backed down in his decision having been convinced by this sector of the bench.

In this way, the list would maintain approximately 15 votes, along with the discontent in some parties such as APP. Another reason why this option is questioned is for having been in talks with congressmen from the Peru Libre left-wing caucus, although he does not enjoy the sympathy of all of them, since the parliamentarian Silvana Robles pointed out that it was a table “continuist” with which the first year of the legislature was held.
As another example of these reservations is the one shown by the legislator José Arriola, of Popular Action, who hinted that his vote would not go with “banks that are seeking proximity to the left.”
Divided parties and the third possible list from the left
On the other hand, the spokeswoman for Cambio Democrático-Juntos por el Perú, Ruth Luque, had hinted that a possible list would be formed that is contemplated by left-wing candidates and that includes dissident parties from Free Peru, such as the Magisterial Bloc, which has 10 votes; Democratic Peru, with seven; Peru Bicentennial, with five; and the same Democratic Change group, which with the addition of Héctor Acuña, has six.

Outside is the block of those not grouped, which are five congressmen: Susel Paredes, Flor Pablo Medina, Ed Málaga Trillo, Carlos Anderson and Luis Picón, who to date have not shown a preference for either of the two lists presented.
On the other hand, there are two benches that are clearly divided. In the first place, and as has already been shown in Echaíz’s list, is Avanza País, because, while four of the 10 congressmen of said parliamentary group have assured their support for the exapepista’s candidacy, another five have not pronounced regarding whether or not they favor Echaíz; and Amuruz has expressed his dissatisfaction with the table, as a sign that he could opt for the Camones option.
Another bench that is divided is that of Alianza para el Progreso, which still maintains in its ranks the group of eight regional congressmen who nominated Héctor Acuña as a candidate for the presidency of the Board of Directors. In this way, after the union of Acuña to Cambio Democrático, there is the possibility that this possible third list enjoys the sympathy of the majority of APP, which has twelve legislators, leaving only four supporting Camones’s candidacy.
