The governor Nicholas Maduro did not attend, this Sunday, July 24, the act for the 199 years of the Naval Battle of Lake Maracaibo and Navy Day.
Failing that, as happened on June 24, Army Day, and July 5, Independence and National Armed Forces Day, the president sent a virtual message. In the 2021the ruler did not attend the act of the military component either.
In his message, Maduro highlighted “the revolutionary and moral spirit” of the Navy, one of the components of the National Armed Forces (FAN).
“199 years ago, our glorious Bolivarian Navy carried the banners, the flags of the liberated Homeland to great victory, against the Spanish Imperial Navy, against the attempt to retake Lake Maracaibo, the process of reconquest and reversal of the independence already won in the territory of Colombia, of Gran Colombia in the territory of the united provinces of Venezuela”, said the president.

Likewise, Maduro pointed out that the country is preparing to commemorate the Bicentennial of the Naval Battle of the Lake, in the year 2023. He stressed that this victory sealed history “of our glorious, brave, patriotic and revolutionary Navy as we have it today”.

The president also referred to the Liberator, when celebrating the 239th anniversary of his birth, this Sunday, July 24.
Maduro maintained that the Spanish empire “failed to restart a campaign of reconquest, of recolonization and it was our sailors from the homeland, united men and women with rifles in hand, who with rumbling cannon told the Spanish empire to get out of here” .
He expressed that Simón Bolívar is today more relevant than ever, «today more present in his example, today inspired and inspiring millions of men and women in his homeland Venezuela and throughout our America to give the battle that touches us, for independence. , for the dignity and freedom of the 21st century”. She also highlighted the defense made by the Liberator of the homeland and of self-determination.
