This Sunday morning the flag was raised at the National Pantheon, in Caracas, to commemorate the 239th anniversary of the birth of the Liberator Simón Bolívar.
The act was headed by the Vice President of Citizen Security and Peace, Remigio Ceballos Ichaso, who highlighted Bolívar’s pro-independence and anti-imperialist legacy.
Also present was the Comptroller General of the Republic, Elvis Amoroso, the Ministers of Culture, Ernesto Villegas; of Education, Yellitze Santaella; and from Penitentiary Services, Mirelys Contreras; as well as the mayor of Caracas, Carmen Meléndez.
«Today, 239 years after the birth of the Liberator GJ Simón Bolívar, we honor you, Father of the Great Homeland. You bequeathed Independence to the peoples of America, your message of anti-imperialist and libertarian struggle remains alive,” Ichaso said.
He stressed that the Liberator was “more than a liberal thinker”, since with his action he inaugurated “a new era by collapsing a great world empire such as the Spanish empire.”
“As a political doctrine of indisputable, irreducible and indestructible transcendence, his life is the most exciting story of struggle, effort, drama, defeats, triumphs, glories,” he asserted in a VTV broadcast.
He argued that his letters, proclamations and speeches are the greatest heritage to know the independence process in all its historical dimension.
He stressed that Commander Hugo Chavez “put the Liberator in his position, magnified him to his fair extent and recorded him forever in the imagination of the Venezuelan people.”
Simón José Antonio de la Santísima Trinidad Bolívar y Palacios Ponte y Blanco, was born in Caracas on July 24, 1783 and died on December 17, 1830, in Santa Marta, Colombia.
Bolívar liberated several countries such as Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Colombia, Bolivia and Panama, laying the foundations for the unity of the peoples of Latin America.
