According to the president of the National Chamber of Funeral Companies, these funeral services operate under the margin of illegality, he even warned that they have received complaints of preparation of bodies in spaces such as parking lots.
The president of the National Chamber of Funeral Companies, Édgar Hernández, warned about the proliferation of services of this type that operate illegally, without trained personnel or spaces that comply with health standards.
He assured that the expansion of this illicit market occurred as a result of the arrival of the covid-19 pandemic, in March 2020 and that it has extended to the present day.
“As a result of the pandemic, services of this type have emerged that are offered outside morgues and hospitals, especially for the issue of transfers, any vehicle offers to carry a corpse without any type of guarantee,” Hernández said.
In an interview for Wave the Superstationthe president of the Chamber of Funeral Homes, pointed out that the respective entities are currently monitoring these companies that offer an illegal service, “they do not comply with the necessary measures to carry out this service.”
The president of the Chamber stressed that family members think that by going to these services everything will be cheaper and it is, on the contrary, because the illegal services work as managers and they must pay separately, he explained.
“Information has reached us that they prepare bodies in parking lots or in inappropriate spaces”, which is a public health hazard.
Funeral homes have a margin established by the State, he clarified.
Finally, he confirmed that the Funeral Chamber has legal companies that offer quality service. He highlighted that they have affiliated some 200 funeral homes throughout the country with 16 private cemeteries, and that they are now affiliating coffin manufacturing companies.
Edgar Hernández took the opportunity to comment that the Mayor’s Office of Caracas is currently reorganizing Cementerio del Sur, with the aim of offering a better service.
