The director of the Directorate of Military Counterintelligence (Dgcim) in Apure state, Juan Bautista García, alias Gavilán, was deprived of liberty, for allegedly being involved in the torture and subsequent death of Cicpc detective Ángel Juan Pantoja, they informed Faith and Joy News sources linked to the Public Ministry.

García would be charged with the alleged crimes of homicide for futile reasons and breach of chain of custody. Also, it was unofficially known that officials Luis Uzcátegui, Nixon Mirabal, Alvin León and Edgard Almandoz were also implicated in the event that occurred on July 7.

The members of the Dgcim Yarumy Rafael Figueroa and José Carlos Flores Pérez had already been apprehended and charged for this act, who allegedly had beaten and then caused the death of Pantoja. They are currently being held at the Boleíta (Caracas) headquarters of this security entity.

It transpired that the four officials of this military counterintelligence body will be presented before the Second Control Court of Apure state this Saturday, July 23.

The facts

As will be remembered on July 7, the information was known that Cicpc Juan Pantoja, who had been arrested on Tuesday, was found dead in a cell of the Dgcim, located in the Merecure sector, in the municipality of Biruaca, Apure. July 5th.

In a first version, the director of the organization, Juan García, stated that Pantoja, 32 years old, had gotten into a water pipe that was in the room and therefore had died of mechanical asphyxiation.

However, specialized forensic experts who arrived from Caracas performed a second autopsy in which they determined that the official had died by submersion, drowned in a pipe full of water, in addition to the fact that he had also received several blows to his head, chest, stomach, arms and legs. legs, even suffering from a stroke and abundant fluid in his lungs.

Responsibility of chains of command

Upon learning of the event, several human rights activists demanded that the responsibilities of the chains of command also be determined by the Public Ministry. Apparently, the Attorney General’s Office responded to this demand in the Garcia case.

It was learned that last week the Director General of the Cicpc, Douglas Rico, was in San Fernando. However, he did not publicly refer to the case.
