González recalled that “last Friday, at a congress of delegates, an action plan was approved, which is being deployed and will take to the streets in the coming days to demand answers to the claims of the Post Office.”
“Today our main claims are focused on obtaining more personnel, more resources and achieving changes in the organization’s management” since “we understand that postal services are a fabulous business” but since there are no “country lines” for its implementation, Uruguay The opportunity is being lost for the Post Office “to be the logistical arm of the State.”
Competition out of control
The trade unionist stressed that, although the number of registered mail companies has been reduced in recent years, “nearly 80 private companies are still active, many of them with low requirements for their installation and operation.”
“To this we must add a sustained cut in personnel at the Post Office that ends up affecting the service” in a context with “high competition” and with “notorious management shortcomings that need to be reviewed,” said González.
Proven Capacity
Currently “technology is a great ally” with which the Post Office has and “there is a very important market in terms of packages and distribution of purchases” that make up “a fabulous business”, explained the union leader in dialogue with Portal APU .oops
González recalled that “during the Pandemic, the Post Office implemented drug distribution plans, through an agreement with the State Health Services Administration, “achieving percentages greater than 97% compliance.”
Posts outside the articles of the Rendering of Accounts
In the current accountability process, “the inclusion of an article that deals with the Post Office has not yet been confirmed,” González remarked; while he confirmed that they are making a series of contacts with benches from different political sectors to analyze possible improvements for the entity.
With close to 80% of its workforce unionized, postal workers seek to sensitize the population and the political system in general so that the necessary actions are taken to avoid privatization strategies.
One of the objectives of the mobilizations is “to force the exit of Red Pagos del Correo”, González highlighted; while, in another order of ideas “there have been talks with the delegates of the interior so that they advance in instances of operative alliances in the territory with municipalities and intendancies”.
“We are open to dialogue – González stressed – but if we do not obtain answers to our claims, we do not rule out any action that allows us to make visible the situation that the Post Office is experiencing and the serious management problems that must be evaluated,” he remarked.
