The president of the FCU of the UCV reported members of the Copred and security of the university trying to paralyze the works carried out by the Presidential Commission, which were not authorized by any entity of the university
Jesus Mendoza Morales, president of the Federation of University Centers of the Central University of Venezuela (UCV) denounced on the afternoon of this Friday, July 22, that a monument to Jorge Rodríguez, former guerrilla and founder of the Socialist League, is being “raised”; where before there was a plaque in his honor; without permission from the institution, a World Heritage Site.
«We denounce that at this moment a monument is being erected irregularly for Jorge Rodríguez “father”, in Nobody’s Land, without authorization from any entity of the university. We are Copred, Central Security and the FCU we are demanding the stoppage, “said the university leader through his Twitter account.

Pablo Molina, director of Copred told SuchWhich that the presidential commission –which has been carrying out recovery work at the university for months– decided to increase the volume and size, “to make it more visible”, the plaque commemorating Jorge Rodríguez, located in No Man’s Land –recognition that it never had approval from the Central University of Venezuela, he clarifies.
It points out that this modification was “permitted” by the UCV Cultural Heritage Institute (IPC), chaired by Dinorah Cruz; decision that they learned on the afternoon of this Friday, July 22. “This was not reported, and that it is permitted does not mean that we agree,” clarifies Molina, who reported that in the next few hours they will issue a statement in which they will establish a position.
Molina recalls that “any commemoration, plaque, act or tribute to any person, regardless of who they are, must be approved by the institutions; that is to say, University Council, but this was not the case». The director of Copred was one of the attendees at No Man’s Land this Friday afternoon, also the one who requested that the work be stopped, until he knew where the action came from.
The former guerrilla and founder of the Socialist League is the father of Vice President Delcy Rodríguez and the President of the National Assembly elected in 2020, Jorge Rodríguez.
On the other hand, the president of the FCU, Jesús Mendoza Morales, denounced that he was attacked by “one of the members of the Presidential Commission”, for preventing the work “which does not have authorization” from continuing.

They believe that by painting some walls they own the university
The UCV will never be among those who have dedicated themselves to destroying it, they have no rights, its shadow will never cover us, not even with a statue

The UCV is a World Heritage Site. The arbitrary construction of a statue of Jorge Rodríguez in our university campus represents a violation of our house of studies.
Against which we demand that the construction of it be paralyzed. pic.twitter.com/JBVgPrc579
