Conicet researchers will assist the educational and scientific sector of Tierra del Fuego in education and training on school violence and the development of medicinal cannabis, the agency reported.

The Minister of Science and Technology, Daniel Filmus, and the Governor of Tierra del Fuego, Gustavo Melella, signed two agreements to train the educational sector in the approach and prevention of situations of violence and in the strengthening of scientific-technological capacities in relation to the use of medicinal cannabis,

The head of the Conicet, Ana Franchi, assured that these agreements “commit us as a scientific system with the provincial governments, to continue deepening this articulation between the Conicet and the provinces to respond to concrete and local demands”.

A team led by researcher Alejandro Capriati together with Ana Clara Camarotti, from the Gino Germani Research Institute (IIGG, FSOC, UBA) will seek to sensitize teachers, management teams and pedagogical advisors at any level and type of establishment about violence against children, girls and adolescents (NNyA) and the importance of acting when detecting abusive situations.

This work is part of the Comprehensive Sexual Education Law (ESI) and focuses on violence and prevention, generating instances of reflection so that teachers can review their practices and activate inter-institutional circuits in the face of suspicions of abuse “Capriati remarked.

Meanwhile, Gregorio Bigatti, a researcher at the Institute of Biology of Marine Organisms (IBIOMAR-CONICET) and Tomás Bosco, from the Patagonian Institute, for the Study of Continental Ecosystems, together with Claudia Leal, presented a work plan so that the scientific, industrial and medical it becomes familiar with the entire medical cannabis development circuit.

The work plan consists of the approach related to the development of medicinal cannabis, from cultivation to the production of phytopreparations, its quality control, and the experiences of articulation between local, provincial and national actors.

The technical staff will receive specific training in good laboratory practices and analytical techniques for the quality control of the final plant product that the National Patagonian Center (Cenpat) develops according to its capabilities.
