Insolvency decreased and sector confidence recovered in May

According to Informa Colombia, as of May 2022, 181 companies took advantage of the corporate insolvency regime, which represents a decrease of 39% compared to the same period in 2021. The highest levels of insolvency continue to occur in commerce and industry, and the only sector that registered an increase between 2021 and 2022 was tourism.

(Women outperform men by 6.6 points in opening credits).

Now, if 2022 is compared to 2019 or the pre-pandemic period, there is an increase of 19%.

In relation to company size, in the first five months of 2022, 74 micro-enterprises, 49 small companies, 42 medium-sized and 16 large companies have gone into insolvency.

(The employment challenges that the new government will have).

For its part, five cities concentrate 46% of the companies that filed for business insolvencyl: Bogotá (49), Medellín (17), Barranquilla (9), Cartagena (5) and Cali (4).

The Sector Confidence Index closed at 54.8 points out of 100in June 2022. This reflects an increase of 4% compared to 2021, when the blockades suffered by the country were being released.

It is worth noting that this level of confidence does not yet reflect good results, since these are obtained when the index exceeds 60 points.

This, according to Informa Colombia, could be explained because there are still business and consumer nervousness due to the high pressures that are appearing in costs and prices, as well as the expectation of new public policies with Gustavo Petro as president.
