Andy García Lorenzo

MIAMI, United States.- Relatives of political prisoner Andy García Lorenzo denounced this Friday that the young man was transferred from the camp where he is serving a four-year prison sentence, for his participation in the protests on July 11, 2021, and until They do not know his whereabouts at this time.

Through a direct streamed on facebookRoxana García Lorenzo, Andy’s sister, and Jonathan López, the protester’s brother-in-law and Roxana’s partner, explained that on a regular visit to the “El Soler” forced labor camp, the young man’s father learned that he was not there.

“Once again Andy is transferred without notifying us, because they think they own one. We are already saying that Andy is missing, until we have proof of where he is, be it a call or a visit, “said López.

Roxana and Jonathan explained that they were going to go out to the camp to demand explanations, but the rain has not allowed them to leave the house.

Roxana said that her father protested the situation and “asked why he wasn’t there if he went to where they sent him to serve his sentence.” Likewise, she added that after several calls, officials of the regime assure that the young man is in the Yabu forced labor camp “but we have not been able to confirm it.”

“We are going to continue trying to find a way to get to Yabu, to confirm if he is there, because we do not trust anything that State Security says, much less any boss.”

According to the information given to Andy García’s father, the young man was transferred from the camp on July 10 in the afternoon, and “by protocol, since the laws are respected so much, we should have been informed, and they did not . They don’t care about anything,” said Roxana.

Andy García Lorenzo was violently arrested on 11J and accused of “public disorder” and “disrespect”. With a prosecutor’s request for seven years in prison, he was tried in January of this year along with 15 other 11J protesters in the same province, and sentenced to four years in prison.

After more than 12 months behind bars, the 24-year-old has been subjected to at least 13 types of torture and ill-treatment according to Prisoners Defenders (PD), in retaliation against him and his family for allegations of human rights violations against political and common prisoners.

Last May, he was transferred from the maximum security prison of Guamajal, near Santa Clara, to a correctional labor camp of the Cuban regime.

During the transfer, the authorities sent him home for a short period, where he would wait “to continue serving his sentence in an open [campamento de trabajo correccional del régimen cubano]”.
