Industrial and productive sector ask the government to take concrete measures to reestablish security and social peace

Given the social situation and the latest events that Panama is going through, after 3 weeks of closures at the NATIONAL level that threaten the democratic institutions of our country; the industrial sector and productive sector represented by the Union of Industrialists of Panama, National Council of private enterprise, Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture of Panama, APEX, ANAVIP, ANAPOR, ANAPROLE, ANALMO, ANAGAN, APROQUELPA, COPRAVE and ANDIA, We make a firm and forceful call to President Laurentino Cortizo Cohen to take concrete measures to reestablish security and social peace in the country, for which we highlight the following:

1. We support and applaud the decision of a single dialogue table as a solution to be able to address the concerns of the population, in which initially, the mediator and the organized groups that protest, established an agenda of points to discuss and did so.

2. In the second instance and as a first point, the list of products of the expanded basic basket would be technically formed, to initiate a once again technical discussion, to reach agreements.

  1. The discussion at the table, on Thursday, July 21, 2022, did not produce a consensual result to start a technical discussion, but rather revolved around the economic model of our country, which is not only not the subject of discussion, but also threatens everyone. the Panamanians.

  1. The ideology and economic system that the various protesting groups are trying to introduce, IS NOT AN EXPERIMENT. It is already proven that it annuls the productive capacity of a country, breaks the constitutional system and leads to poverty, in countries where it has been erroneously implemented by lying to the people.

  1. The systematic attack on free enterprise in the streets, in messages, in violent pressure measures and outside the law, has shown us the true face of the movement.

  1. The rule of law has been violated, economically affecting micro, small, medium and large companies.

7. We demand that a real roadmap be executed that demonstrates the will to make changes that meet the clamor of society, the table must continue, but there must also be greater belligerence in the government’s actions in terms of saving measures, corruption and oversight of justice and democracy.

8. EVERY DAY that goes by without results is a lost day for all, we ask the Archdiocese of Panama as facilitators, to include the productive sector in the negotiation and exercise with determination and assertiveness, the role to execute this dialogue in for the social peace and security of the country.
