IM and CH Municipality issued statement after explosion in Biarritz

The Intendancy of Montevideo (MI) and Communal CH, issued a statement regarding the burst from the apartment, located in front of the Villa Biarritz square.

The explosion took place in the early hours of Friday morning, where the magnitude of it affected almost the entire building.

This caused the evacuation by firefighters of the people who lived there. Floors two and three are currently in danger of collapsing as a result of the violent deflagration. In addition, the radius of the incident covers several blocks, since adjoining and nearby areas were damaged by the wave that produced the explosion.

Currently, there are two serious people, one of them with 80% of his body burning. A woman admitted to intensive care for carbon monoxide inhalation.

While the Municipality of Montevideo (IM), issued a statement indicating that “We are collaborating with national authorities.” Regarding the “care and response to the unfortunate event that occurred in a building in Villa Biarritz. As for the CH Municipality, it was indicated that “the Municipality has already begun cleaning the area and is making itself available to those affected and the neighbors.”

Mayor Matilde Antía, stated; «The images of the explosion in Villa Biarritz are incredible. Alvaro Maynard and the CH team are in the area supporting the work of Firefighters, Police, CECOED and available to neighbors to assist them at this time. We look forward to the speedy recovery of the injured.”
