Lugo: “Cartes hits the political class hard”

Lugo: "Cartes hits the political class hard"

Fernando Lugo, first vice president of the Chamber of Senators, gave his position on the sanction imposed by the United States embassy on former president Horacio Cartes.

“Personally, I would have liked these considerations to have been made by the Paraguayan justice. It is a blow and hopefully it will have an impact. This qualification of the United States government through its embassy comes as a strong blow to the Paraguayan political class,” the senator said on the 730 am radio station, adding that: “apart from being significantly corrupt, it is very strong that he used the Presidency for a obstruction of an investigation.

Regarding a possible political trial of the State Attorney General, Sandra Quiñónez, he maintained that the first step is in the Chamber of Deputies. «I think it is a beautiful opportunity for the political class, of Parliament, to restart again. Although the government of Horacio Cartes has obstructed justice, the obstruction that the Prosecutor’s Office makes so that an investigation does not come to a successful conclusion is no less serious, “said Fernando Lugo.
