The National Migration Service reported that, due to the closure of the Inter-American highway in San Félix, Chiriquí province, which has prevented the mobilization of buses with migrants to the receiving station in Los Planes, Gualaca, they have proceeded to transfer them through the use of internal transport routes, to reach its final destination.

The entity explained that, when the migrants reach a closing point, they cross the obstructed section of road on foot and a bus awaits them on the other side to continue on their way. This happened in closed points such as San Juan and Horconcitos. In this way, the flow of 5,827 migrants has been maintained in recent days, so that they can continue their journey to Costa Rica.

Organizations such as Doctors Without Borders had raised concerns about the overcrowding of irregular migrants in shelters in Darién due to road closures in recent weeks.

According to Migration data, this year nearly 50,000 migrants have entered through the jungle between Panama and Colombia.
