The fans wore the striker’s masks to see their team beat Cerrito 5-0

They will only miss the final match if they come out thrashed in their duel on the last day against Boston River

Nacional thrashed Cerrito this Thursday 5-0maintained first place in group B of the Intermediate Tournament and reached the top of the accumulated Annual Table of the Uruguayan Championshipwhile 15,000 masks of Luis Suárez covered the stands of the Gran Parque Central stadium. The Argentine Emmanel Gigliotti twice, Franco Fagúndez and Felipe Carballo sentenced the match in favor of the group led by Pablo Repetto in the first half. After 90 minutes, defender Christian Almeida put the icing on the cake with the fifth goal and a special celebration: the number 13 put on one of the masks that the fans took to the field of play as part of the movement they organized to achieve the return of Suárez to the team in which he made his professional debut in 2005.

With the victory, Nacional reached 16 points in Intermediate Group B and stayed 90 minutes from the final, which will only be lost if it loses to Boston River on the last day by a landslide. In addition, the Tricolor took advantage of Liverpool’s tie and returned to the top of the accumulated Annual Table, where it has 44 points.

In other group B matches, Boston River beat Cerro Largo 2-0, Danubio won by the same result against Plaza Colonia and River Plate tied 1-1 with Defensor Sporting. In Group A, Montevideo Wanderers let a golden opportunity pass them by by losing 1-0 to Fénix in a match that was defined in the opening minutes by a goal from Ignacio Pereira.

With the defeat, Wanderers remained with 11 points, the same accumulated by Liverpool and Albion, who on Tuesday equalized 0-0 in the game that faced them. According to this, it is probably the goal difference that should be taken into account to define the finalist this weekend.

In another of the games, Rentistas and Peñarol tied 0-0 when a power outage at the Centenario stadium meant that the game had to be suspended. Finally, Depotivo Maldonado and Montevideo City Torque equalized 1-1, a result that left both teams without options.
