Three Jivi Indians Murdered in Bolívar

Woman planned murder of her husband

Three Jivi indigenous people were killed with firearms in the Guarataro sector, Sucre municipality (Maripa), Bolívar state, reported the civil association Kake Kape.

The triple murder was confirmed by the relatives of the indigenous, said the aforementioned organization on its twitter account.

“The murder happened this Tuesday morning,” says Kape Kape. “It is presumed that the perpetrators were the armed groups operating in the area,” adds the tweet showing a photo of the three bodies placed face down.

“According to the testimony of the relatives, the murdered indigenous people are not engaged in mining, or any similar activity. They affirm that they were in the area making mañoco”, describe the activists, alluding to cassava flour.

On June 30, another murder of an indigenous person occurred in Amazonas. This is Virgilio Trujillo Arana, considered a leader of the Huotüja indigenous people, who was shot three times in the Escondio 3 sector, Puerto Ayacucho (Amazonas).

The initial investigations indicate that Arana had received threats. On the occasion of this murder, the governor of Amazonas, Miguel Rodríguez, issued a statement demanding an investigation. “We cannot remain silent in the face of such an unfortunate event,” wrote the regional president.
