The Cuban discus thrower Yaimé Pérez could not be among the medalists of the Oregon 2022 World Athletics Championships and had to settle for seventh place.
Pérez opened committing foul, and on his second attempt he sent the disc to 62.36 meters, which was followed by shipments of 61.32; 63.07; 62.94 and 62.36 meters. China’s Bin Feng, who was not given as a favorite for gold, had the best of her life on the very first shot by taking the implement to 69.12 meters.
With that shipment, the Chinese put the favorites against the wall, who could not catch up. Second place went to Croatian Sandra Perkovic, with a throw of 68.45, and third place to American Valarie Allman, with 68.30 meters.
Roxana Gómez, the other Cuban in the event, did not have a good performance in the 400-meter dash, setting a record of 51.12 seconds. She was unable to access the final.
