Havana Cuba. – The former political prisoner of the group of 75 Eduardo Díaz Fleitas denounces that the prison authorities of Kilo 5 y Medio prevented him from delivering a package with supplies for the also political prisoner and demonstrator of the 11J Alexander Diaz Rodriguez.
The activist points out that upon arriving at the maximum rigor prison on the afternoon of July 19, the date set for Díaz Rodríguez’s visit, the guard who guarded the entrance prevented him from entering the prison.
The activist clarified that his intention was not to visit the political prisoner because he knows that he does not appear on the list of authorized persons, but to send him a package with food and some supplies that he lacks. However, the request was denied.
Díaz Fleitas adds that in view of the refusal, he demanded to speak with officer Alexis, from State Security, who appeared with another political police agent who did not identify himself, followed by the head of the prison, Lieutenant Colonel Yusmani Miranda Alonso. The latter was justified with the penitentiary regulations. The military also alleged that Díaz Fleitas was not a relative of the inmate, which is not a valid argument since it is not an essential requirement to be able to visit the prisoners.
The opponent points out that when mentioning the serious illness of Díaz Rodríguez, the agents alleged that the protester did not suffer from cancer but that he spent the day “pills”. The military also indicated that on July 20 a medical commission would visit the prison to examine the prisoner’s case.
The former political prisoner adds that they did not accept the package for Jorge Luis Rodríguez Valdés, imprisoned in retaliation for writing posters against the dictatorship, to whom Díaz Fleitas brings food and supplies every month since he was imprisoned and had never been prevented before. In this case they warned him that they would notify him at “another time”.
