Demonstrations, confrontations and street closures in the province of Veraguas, specifically in the district of Santiago, have forced the authorities of this municipality to cancel the Santiago Apóstol employer associations, which were scheduled to take place from July 28 to 31.
Through a statement, the mayor of the district of Santiago Samid Sandoval explained that the events that occurred due to the claim of the Panamanian people in the country and the province of Veraguas and especially in the district of Santiago forced him to suspend cultural and festive sports activities. scheduled on the occasion of the patron saints of Santiago.
The mayor explained that this suspension will be in force until the climate of peace and tranquility for the population is restored.
“We trust that the path of dialogue, understanding and conciliation among all will prevail to get ahead in this crisis,” he pointed out.
This would be the third consecutive year in which these festivities are not held the first two years (2020-2021) due to the Covid-19 pandemic and this 2022 due to the social demands of the population.
