Government promises to accelerate punishments for women’s aggressors, but has two accused of domestic violence in its ranks

With two authorities in office accused of violence against women, the Government of Luis Arce received and referred to the Legislative Assembly the preliminary draft of the Law to Strengthen Law 348. In the main speech, President Luis Arce said that with this law the rights and privileges for aggressors of women are over.

“With this law, the rights and privileges of the aggressors are over., whoever assaults a woman must be sure that his aggression will receive a sanction with the full weight of the law”, assured the Head of State in the final part of his speech and said that the proposal will be immediately sent to the Assembly for its approval. consideration; though the Assembly went into recess until August 1.

Interestingly, the MAS, the party to which President Arce belongs has two authorities in officethe deputy Froilán Mamani (La Paz) and the councilor of Mairana, Gilberth Tapia Córdoba (Santa Cruz), who are accused in court of aggression against their respective partners, however, they did not receive legal sanctions and continue in office despite the crime they committed.


This Tuesday, twenty groups of women activists delivered to the Casa Grande del Pueblo the draft law that tries to banish violence against women. President Arce recalled that it was an instruction from the beginning of his administration as president, taking into account the inordinate number of cases of aggression that occurred during the first phase of the pandemic.

“We did it in response, during the (electoral) campaign, to the demand of various social organizations, especially our sisters who had been victims of violence during the period of the first wave of the pandemic. Likewise, we instruct the realization of a serious, objective and comprehensive study that allows us to know the state of the situation, the shortcomings and needs that we face in the fight against all types of violence against women”, explained the president.

The Minister of Justice, Iván Lima, announced that one of the main problems that the discussion groups saw was the lack of resources in the Judicial Branch and work was done on that aspect in the commission instructed by the president.

“There are permanent claims for allocation of resources At all levels, at the subnational levels, at the central level, it is necessary for the Judicial Branch to act in a manner consistent with constitutional principles,” Lima said in his speech.

The president said that mechanisms must be adopted that protect women from the State through prevention, with interoperability mechanisms that allow timely, rapid and efficient actions to fight against all kinds of violence against women.
