THE Municipal Secretariat of Urban Infrastructure and Works of São Paulo (Siurb) started on Saturday (16) the operation for the demolition of the Comércio e Indústria Building, in the central region of the capital. The building was hit by a fire on Sunday (10), which was only controlled more than 60 hours later. According to the city hall, the front area of the building was isolated and, at the weekend, it was also completed the assembly of the construction site on Rua Barão de Duprat.
The material that will be used in the demolition work has already been delivered, such as compressors, generators, buckets, scaffolding and ladders. The area, located between numbers 70 and 102 of Rua Abdo Schahin, remains closed, released only for cleaning and removal of materials burned during the fire.
“The work plan for the demolition of the building is being prepared. As it is an emergency action, the terms and amounts invested will be determined during the works. It is important to note that all services performed in the contract follow the Siurb Cost Table [elaborada em parceria com a Fundação Instituto de Pesquisas Econômicas – Fipe]”, informed the municipality.
According to the city hall, work takes place 7 days a week, always from 7 am to 5 pm. In this first stage, 20 workers carry out activities on site. The municipal administration said that it works to free up the area in the shortest possible time, always focusing on the safety of pedestrians, traders and workers who perform the services. The estimated time for completion was not reported.
The work plan for the demolition of the building is under preparation. After cleaning the site, removing all the material left over from the fire and shoring all floors, technical teams will be able to analyze in loco the condition of the structural elements (beams, pillars and slabs). Based on the analysis of the collected data, the demolition schedule will be defined.
