Daily losses due to stoppage of cargo movement range between $30 million

The Logistics Business Council (COEL), who gave a press conference on Monday, estimates that, in logistics and cargo movement by land, the daily loss is close to $30 million due to road closures and demonstrations that take place. have increased in recent days.

Edgar Urrutia, president of COEL, stated this Tuesday on Radio Panama that a global economic loss cannot be accurately quantified, however, what they seek is to call on the protesters to lay down individual interests and place national interests as a priority. .

The president of the union assured that they are not against the protests, since it is a legitimate right of each citizen, “but we want ways to dialogue to be found.”

They consider that road closures, contrary to bringing common goals closer together, are seriously affecting producers, carriers and the population in general, due to the shortages they cause, the transfer of medicines and the increase in product prices.
