The covid-19 epidemic, the one that some already describe as endemic, continues to decline. In the last week, the Ministry of Public Health reported 2,438 new positive cases to the coronavirus test, 22% less than the previous week.
Fewer diagnostic tests were performed in the last seven days—winter vacations through. Even so, the positive cases were proportionally lower than the previous week (the positivity decreased from 12.6% to 11.2%), which confirms the downward trend.
According to the official report, between July 10 and 16 there were 11 deaths due to infection that causes the coronavirus. That means a decrease in mortality figures (the previous week they had been 21).
The previous week there were three other deaths with covid-19 that were reported later, for which the accumulated to date exceeds 7,387 deaths of people with the virus.
As respiratory viruses begin to subside —especially the flu that had entered the country earlier than in previous seasons— the occupancy of beds in intensive care units falls: from 67% to 64%.
Since the end of the health emergency, and the change in the testing strategy, the profiles of those diagnosed with coronavirus have been changing. A new epidemiological report from the Ministry of Public Health reveals that Half of the newly infected are between 30 and 60 years old.
Since the beginning of April, the month in which the government ended the covid emergency that had begun on March 13, 2020, those infected in that age range represent an average 52.7% of total cases per week until the end of June, period investigated by the report.
