What is the minimum wage in Mexico?

The salary in Mexico is established in general for the entire country and for the free zone of the northern border with the United States. For this year, the National Minimum Wage Commission (Conasami) determined it at 172.87 pesos per day in general, and for the northern zone at 260.34 pesos.

Does a minimum wage pay taxes?

Income less than 7,000 pesos per month is not taxed with Income Tax (ISR), so those who earn up to a minimum wage are exempt from collecting this tax, explained Silva from the CCPM.

Is it enough to live in this country with the minimum wage?

In accordance with article 90 of the Federal Labor Law, the minimum wage must be sufficient to satisfy the normal needs of a head of family in the material, social and cultural order, and to provide for the compulsory education of the children.

However, most of a weekly minimum wage is absorbed by the cost of a basic food basket that, on average, feeds four people per week.

Buying the 24 products of the Basic Basket contained in the Plan Against Inflation and Scarcity (PACIC), costs between 1,068 and 1,200 pesos, while the amount of a minimum wage per week is 1,037 and up to 1,565.04 pesos, refers a exercise carried out by Expansión.
