Brazil confirmed its status as favorite to win the Women’s Copa América with Monday’s 4-0 victory against Venezuela, a result that qualifies the Canarinha advance to the semifinals of the tournament that takes place in Colombia.

Attacker Beatriz Zaneratto opened the way for Brazil at the Centenario Stadium in Armenia with a header (22), after a precise cross from left-back Tamires.

In the second half, Ary Borges took advantage of a counterattack to widen the lead against Venezuela playing on the attack (51). While Debinha sentenced the win with another goal through the air (58) and a right cross (65).

With this, the Brazilians took over the top of Group B with a perfect score and no goals against in three games. They also secured a place in the semi-finals of the tournament.

Venezuela was tied with Argentina in the second box in the zone (6 points). La Vinotinto and La Albiceleste will compete for the second place in the semis on Thursday, when they meet on the final date of the group stage.

In addition to the three direct quota places for the 2023 World Cup, the Copa América Femenina grants tickets for a playoff to the fourth and fifth classified. The two finalists get a ticket to the Paris-2024 Olympic Games.

Colombia (9 points), Paraguay (6), Chile (6), Ecuador (3) and Bolivia (0) make up Group A, which is defined on Wednesday.

The first two of each group will play the semifinals of the tournament. The third will be measured by the last place in the World Cup playoffs.
