Authorities of the United Arab Emirates reported the conditional release granted to businessman Diego Benitez, a fugitive from Paraguayan justice, for drug trafficking.
The Paraguayan ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, José Agüero, confirmed that businessman Diego Benitez was released in that state.
He pointed out that in consultation with the authorities of the United Arab Emirates, they responded that Benitez’s passports are withheld, and that he cannot leave the country, “because it is parole.”
“They pointed out that he is inside that country, with his passport detained, that there is no way out because there is a facial recognition system in the system,” said Ambassador Agüero.
He indicated that the concern about the possibility of Diego Benitez escaping is latent, but that the Arabs insist that there is little chance of escape.
For his part, the international affairs prosecutor, Manuel Doldán, emphasized that they are doing everything possible to prevent him from escaping from the Paraguayan authorities again.
“They are internationally responsible,” replied Doldán when asked if with that parole with which Benitez benefited, it would not be an episode similar to the one that happened with Sebastian Marcet, a fugitive in the A Ultranza case.
It should be noted that the sports entrepreneur is listed as responsible for sending 23 tons of cocaine to Europe.
