Government invests more than RD$2,700 million in La Romana

La Romana.- President Luis Abinader headed this Sunday the twenty-fifth Council of Ministers where he highlighted the investment in infrastructure works for more than 2,700 million pesos in this province.

The president explained that in this meeting a review of the management of Government in general terms and in a special way, in the areas of health, education, tourism, finance and electricity.

In the meeting held in the Multipurpose Room of the Immaculate Heart of Mary School, the governor explained that the main construction work in the province is the Villa Hermosa hospital, which has a budget of more than 1,000 million pesos.

He also indicated that for the execution of public works they have a budget of 1,040 million pesos. While, in the Tourism area, it will have an investment of more than 200 million pesos.

He informed that by the National Health Service, the renovation of the Arístides Fiallo Hospital will begin and through the Ministry of Tourism, the construction of the Malecón de Caleta will also be managed.

He reported that steps are being taken through a public-private partnership for the construction of a Free Zone in the municipality of Villa Hermosa.

Likewise, he stressed that through the Provincial Development Commission several works are being carried out, including the intervention of the Eleoncio Mercedes Sports Center and also the construction of the Rio Salado Bridge.

In this Council of Ministers, President Abinader listened to the main needs of this province, as well as the social and community works to be started soon.

At the meeting, the guidelines for the development of the La Romana province were analyzed, by the Minister of Economy, Planning and Development, Pavel Isa Contreras, who explained that investments in the region’s potential productive sectors should be identified and promoted. .

Likewise, he raised the need to promote complementary public and private investment to enhance opportunities, which he said can be achieved with several fundamental axes that are institutional, social, productive and infrastructure.

Tourism in La Romana

At the meeting, the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, also spoke, who addressed tourism: reality, challenges and prospects for development and highlighted that cruise tourism in Romana, Bayahibe as of June is 100% recovered.

Collado reported that, on the instructions of President Abinader, the renovation of the La Romana craft market is already underway and the Malecón de Caleta will be transformed into a space worthy of recreation and relaxation for the people.

Public Works

Likewise, the issue of infrastructure was discussed, where with an amount greater than 800 million pesos, repairs and construction of sidewalks and containments for the city can be carried out, informed the Minister of Public Works and Communications, Deligne Ascención.

In the specific case of La Romana, Ascención said that the investment in works to be carried out and those that have already started is around 1,040 million pesos in projects such as the entrance to the province, construction and reconstruction of streets, sidewalks and containments, among others.

Other officials such as Daniel Rivera, from Public Health, Roberto Fulcar, from Education, as well as the general directors of Internal Revenue, Luis Valdez, from Customs, Eduardo Sanz Lovatón, presented their reports in their respective areas.

The provincial governor, Jacqueline Fernández explained the needs of the province in health works, asphalting of streets, remodeling and construction of education and sports buildings and a Free Zone for Villa Hermosa, which helps to encourage employment in that demarcation.

The theme of the municipalities of the province of La Romana: opportunities to improve the quality of life of the citizens and promote local development, was presented by the mayor of Guaimate, Ivelisse Méndez.

Méndez valued the president’s support for the country’s municipalities and requested the Government’s intervention in infrastructure works, including sidewalks and curbing, asphalt paving, road expansion, filters and scuppers, children’s day care, cemetery reconstruction, Guaimate Boulevard, electrification of neighborhoods, a fishing dock, among others.
